Hospitals are required to accept Medicare approved amounts as payment in full for services; however, deductibles and co-payments by you are still required.
Physicians can charge up to 15% more than Medicare approved amounts meaning you may have to pay these excess charges in addition to a deductible and co-payments.
Ambulance services are required to accept Medicare approved amounts as payment in full for services effective 4/1/2002, but you would still have to pay any deductible remaining and all co-payments.
Durable medical equipment suppliers are not required to accept Medicare approved amounts as payment in full meaning you may have to pay excess charges in addition to any remaining deductible and all co-payments.
Medicare Supplements are designed to pay for some or all of the medical expenses not paid by Medicare.
Medicare Supplements are available in 12 standard government specified plans A through L with plans F and J having a high-deductible option.
Prices vary by insurance company, plan selected, age and is some cases gender or use of tobacco products.
When you select a level of coverage such as a Plan F, the coverage is the same regardless of which insurance company you purchase your Medicare Supplement from.
