Medicare HMO Cost Plan Advantages and Disadvantages

Advantages
Can still receive Medicare benefits when using providers outside the HMO network. Added preventive care services and eye-glasses on some plans. Usually offers discounts on prescription drugs, dentists, chiropractors, and hearing aids. No “Lifetime Reserve” limit on hospital days in most cases. No bills or claim processing.

Disadvantages
For full benefits, you need to see your Primary Care Physician (PCP) first for all of your medical care, except for out-of-area emergencies and out-of-area urgent care. You must use specialists referred by PCP. You are required to pay small co-payments for medical services. Not available in all areas.
